Walk-away Locking and Approach Unlocking Range Rover feature

Vehicle manufacturers are constantly striving to make access to the vehicle more comfortable and easier for the user. At the same time, to make the vehicle security system safer and more reliable from theft. Keyless entry systems in the vehicle are constantly being upgraded and optimized, including to reduce the cost of its production.

An example from our experience. Retrofitting a Range Rover Sport 2017MY with a keyless entry system requires approximately 250m of wire. With the release of the restyling Range Rover Sport 2018MY+ the system was optimized by the manufacturer. And It was possible to reduce the use of wire to an estimated 150m using the same components. Which had a positive effect on the cost of the system in terms of production and vehicle weight.

In our practice, we have seen quite a lot of similar examples. Optimization and development of each vehicle system continues.

After the introduction of the new Range Rover L460 and Range Rover Sport L461 models, the vehicle access system was completely modernized and received new functionality.

One of the interesting features that have appeared is the automatic locking of your Range Rover when you move away from it and the automatic unlocking of the vehicle when you approach it.

Additional sensors located under the headlining of the vehicle in front and rear. They emit a constant signal and, analyzing the return speed of this signal, can measure the distance to the vehicle key fob when you approaching or moving away from a Land Rover, Jaguar.

Automatic Walk-Away Locking is triggered if the key fob moves away from the vehicle by more than 2 m, while the ignition must be turned off and all doors closed. When the vehicle is locked, the door handles automatically move into the closed position, the side mirrors fold in, and the security system is activated.

Automatic Approach Unlocking is triggered if a person with a key fob approaches the vehicle at a distance of 1.5 m, while the door handles move to the open position, the side mirrors unfold and the vehicle is disarmed when the vehicle door is opened. If the vehicle door has not been opened for 30-40s, the vehicle locks again and activates the security system.

Our company LR-CHIP offers to activate this feature if you did not have it from the factory. You will have two additional features Approach Unlocking and Walk Away Locking in the settings menu of the PiVi Pro infotainment system, after activation (Vehicle / Safety and Security /).

You can enable or disable this feature both together and separately.

This feature can also be activated on other Land Rover, Jaguar vehicles.

This feature works exactly on the following models:

Range Rover L460

Range Rover Sport L461

Land Rover Defender 2022MY onwards

This list will expand as we practice.
