Range Rover L405 2013-2017MY restyling to 2018MY+

Our customers often ask us questions regarding the Range Rover restyling process. In this article, using the example of a vehicle of one of our customer, we would like to answer these questions.
In 2018, Land Rover introduced a restyling of the popular Range Rover L405 model, which has been produced since 2013. The changes affected both the exterior and interior of the vehicle. Many customers assume that the vehicles have changed only due to the exterior elements and interior trim, but this is not the case. Vehicles are created on completely different architectures for the communication of electronic components, a new type of communication of modules has been added, data communication signals have been changed. Therefore, it is a complex, long and very expensive undertaking to make an interior restyling of a vehicle. The changes also affected the technical part of gearboxes, differentials, engines, suspension elements, ABS systems.
However it is possible to make exterior restyling, since the vehicle body has not changed. And the main task with the exterior restyling of the Range Rover remains the connection of new LED front headlights and taillights.
Let’s go through the main exterior differences that the Range Rover flagship model received: the front grille has become more modern in design and focuses on itself, the new bonnet has become smoother and longer, the updated front bumper has received more pronounced air intakes, the side door linings have also received changes, the new rear bumper received integrated exhaust tips and the main difference is a completely new front LED headlights and rear LED tail lights.

I would also like to discuss the question of front LED headlights. In the restyled Range Rover model, there are 4 types of front headlights: Premium LED headlights, Matrix headlights, Pixel headlights, Pixel + laser headlights.
In the pre-styling model, all these new types of headlights will work on the principle of Premium LED headlights: low beam, high beam, direction indicators, DRL.
The adaptive lighting feature (cutting out oncoming and passing cars on the road) for Matrix and Pixel headlights will not work. The equipment of a pre-styling vehicle does not support this feature and it is not possible to implement it today.
If we talk about the difference between the types of headlights, then subjectively we can say that the Matrix headlights illuminate the road 15% better than Premium LED headlights, and the Pixel headlights shine 15% better than the Matrix headlights. Only with pixel headlights it is possible to realize the cornering dynamic light and the animated wakeup, shutdown feature when closing and opening the vehicle. Whether it is worth overpaying for one or another type of headlights, each customer decides on his own.
The new front LED headlights are connected via a special module that helps the new headlights communicate with the vehicle’s electronics. To connect the rear LED taillights, you only need to rewire the connection.
To make the Range Rover L405 restyling process to end as soon as possible and the client was left without a vehicle for a less time as possible, we need to prepare well for it. Prepare all the necessary parts and paint the body parts: bumpers, bonnet, side door trims, etc., in the desired color.

Installation can be started by connecting new front and rear LED lights, checking operation and functionality. Next, you can proceed to install new side trims on the front doors.

The next process can be the replacement of the air ducts of the front radiators and the plastic bumper amplifier, the installation of brake cooling air ducts, and the replacement of the front fender liner. Next, we need to install a new bumper, be sure to replace the bonnet, install a new front grille and install a new rear bumper with integrated exhaust tips. There are also a few specific little things that we need to pay attention to when restyling: installing old parking sensors in new bumpers, installing all-round cameras (s) in the front bumper, headlight washer nozzles, and so on.

Despite the cost of Range Rover restyling in 2018+, the result exceeds all expectations. The vehicle gets relevance for a few more years. In our practice, we came across customers who love their vehicle very much, take care of it and have very low mileage. They see no point in selling it and want to continue to exploit it. Restyling helps to get new emotions from the appearance of your vehicle.
