Range Rover 2020MY Head Up Display and Adaptive cruise-control retrofit
In this article, we will cover the main points related to the Head Up Display retrofit on Land Rover / Jaguar vehicles and talk about retrofitting the Adaptive cruise-control with the Traffic Jam Assist feature.
Head Up Display retrofit is a very labour intensive process. Let’s talk about it in more detail using the example of the Range Rover L405 2020 of one of our customers. The vehicle was equipped with Autobiography pack but did not have such useful features from the factory as a head-up display and adaptive cruise control.

The head-up display is a feature that displays basic information about the vehicle such as your speed, gear selected and navigation directions on the windshield.
The head-up display GEN2 has high-resolution full-color graphics, which makes it easy for the driver to see all the necessary information. The head-up display can also display important information from the infotainment touch screen, including phone information such as an incoming call. All information can be turned on and off depending on driver preference via the instrument cluster menu.
We prepare all the parts and start the installation:

Before starting all works, we connect a new instrument cluster and projection display to the vehicle’s electronics, connecting wiring, and carry out software works.

After checking the system and all its functions, we proceed to remove the dashboard, install the head-up display frame and a new dashboard visor.

Retrofitting a head-up display on Land Rover/Jaguar vehicles also involves replacing the windscreen. This is a prerequisite, as the image will split in two. Below are photos of before and after installation where you can clearly see the difference.

You can watch the video of the head-up display installation on the Range Rover L405 2020 below:
Let’s move on to adaptive cruise control retrofit on a Range Rover with a steering assistant function – Traffic Jam Assist.
The adaptive cruise control automatically follows the vehicle in front, maintaining a safe distance. If the vehicle in front slows down or stops, your vehicle follows its steps while keeping the distance.
The Range Rover adaptive cruise control system consist of:
– Adaptive cruise control follow mode;
– Traffic Jam Assist feature – steering assistant when driving in traffic and traffic jams;
– Forward alerts and high speed emergency braking system.
For the first time since 2019, Land Rover is offering a new, innovative adaptive cruise control feature to its customers. Traffic Jam Assist is a semi-autopilot when driving in traffic and traffic jams. The vehicle independently holds the center of the lane, allows you to release the steering wheel, gas and brake pedals.
The process of adaptive cruise control retrofit on a Land Rover Range Rover involves installing an adaptive cruise control radar in the front bumper, adding adaptive cruise control wiring and communicating it with the necessary electronic modules, software works.

After the system is programmed, two arrows for adaptive cruise control are activated on the right steering wheel cruise control switch. Using these buttons, you can adjust the distance to the vehicle in front.
The additional feature of Traffic Jam Assist (steering assist) is activated through the instrument cluster menu in the driver assist section. The driver display shows this feature as a picture of a steering wheel with hands on it.

Adaptive cruise control with Traffic Jam Assist on Land Rover, Jaguar vehicles brings pleasure and comfort on difficult journeys and when driving in traffic and traffic jams.
Additionally, on this vehicle we installed a standard CarPlay system, Android Auto, which was not supplied from the factory to the Ukrainian market, and program the instrument cluster under the SV skin.

The CarPlay, Android Auto package brings a range of approved apps to the center screen of the InControl Touch Pro infotainment system. By connecting the phone via the USB connector in the armrest, you will have access to additional navigation with traffic jams (Google Maps, Waze, etc.), weather, music services, calendar, contacts and much more, for control from the central monitor.
Range Rover SV instrument cluster skin looks more premium and exclusive. Luxurious styling, SV lettering, tachometer and speedometer with white and silver iridescence give the instrument panel a unique look.
