Land Rover DISCOVERY 5 2022MY+ retrofit eight systems in two days
Land Rover has introduced a restyling for the Discovery 5 from the 2021 model year, which has been in production since 2017. The vehicle received exterior and significant interior changes. It is already built on the new EVA 2.0 electronic platform and is equipped with the PiVi Pro infotainment system and a large central screen.
The vehicle was bought out of stock and for us there was the task to retrofit the vehicle with existing factory features as much as possible.
After receiving the offer, the customer decided on the following list of retrofits for the 2022 Land Rover DISCOVERY 5: front seats memory, front seats ventilation and front seats massage, rear seats ventilation, Internal rear folding board with electric drive, Meridian Surround Sound System, front center console refrigerator compartment, air ionization system with PM2.5 filtration, genuine Land Rover Dash Cam.
Also, the following additional features of the Land Rover DISCOVERY 5 2022MY were activated: adaptive cruise control, configurable Terrain Response mode, Dynamic mode with the ability to configure, second generation of auto parking assist, WiFi hotspot activation.
After coordination of delivery parts, terms and the cost of work, we proceeded to the selection and purchase of parts.
Let’s take a closer look at each system retrofit.
1.Front center console refrigerator compartment
Refrigerator compartment allows you to cool and save your drinks or food on long journeys or during the hot season.
The installation process consists of replacing the center console frame, installing the mini refrigerator and replacing the necessary elements of the exterior trim of the center console, wiring connection and software works.
2.Installation of Meridian Surround Sound System
From the factory, this car was equipped with basic infotainment system 240W Enhanced Sound System 8 speakers without a subwoofer. We needed to install a 14-speaker Meridian Surround Sound System 700W with a two-channel subwoofer.
To retrofit the Meridian Surround Sound System, it is necessary to replace the existing speakers in the doors, insert additional speakers into the front door cards and install a subwoofer in the luggage compartment.
Also, it is necessary to install a pair of speakers in the central part of the dashboard and replace the sides of the luggage compartment with new built-in speakers.
Next comes the process of installing a new 700W amplifier, connecting new speakers and a subwoofer to the amplifier. After connecting all the wiring, we programmed the system to the vehicle. On the central screen of the PiVi Pro infotainment system, a menu for managing new features and settings of the Meridian Surround Sound System infotainment system has appeared.
3. Memory, heated and cooled, massage front seats retrofit. Heated and cooled rear seats retrofit
We installed driver and passenger seat memory. The installation process looks like replacing the seat frames with motors, installing a memory module, replacing seat wiring, installing memory buttons on door cards. Each seat has 3 settings memory slots.
Along with the installation of the seat memory, the mechanisms for heating and ventilating the front seats were installed, all this was programmed to the car in order to receive an additional menu for controlling the heating and cooling of the seat.
The front seats massage was also installed. Using the massage function while traveling significantly improves blood circulation and relieves back swelling. Various adjustment features are available: waves, bottom-up, top-down, separately for the top and bottom of the back. You can choose from five levels of massage intensity.
In addition, the ventilation function of the rear seats was implemented. Once programmed, rear seat heating and cooling controls are now available from both the center touchscreen and the rear climate control panel.
The seat heating and cooling system allows you to set a comfortable seat temperature not only in winter, but also in summer. Several operating modes will allow you to choose the optimal temperature for your needs.
4. Internal rear folding board with electric drive
We installed an Internal rear folding board with electric drive, which is comfortable to sit on during sporting events and friendly gatherings. This platform also makes loading easier and acts as a latch when the luggage compartment is full.
The installation process consists of: replacing parts of the trunk lining, installing an electric drive, installing a folding board panel, installing a control module, installing control buttons, wiring connecting, software works.
5.Cabin Air Ionisation with PM2.5 filter retrofit
Air ionization technology provides higher level of comfort for the driver and passengers. Cabin air ionization improves air quality and can help reduce allergens, viruses and bacteria. The system ionizes particles in the air, and then attracts air pollutants to them and neutralizes them.
The new air ionization system has external and internal additional sensors, which allows you to monitor the air quality both from the outside and inside the car, as well as monitor the degree of air purification.
The process of retrofitting of air ionization system with a PM2.5 filter on DISCOVERY 5 consists of: disassembling the dashboard, installing the ionization system and connecting it to the air climate control system, installing the PM2.5 filter, installing additional air quality sensors, connecting wiring, software works.
After programmatically adding the system to the vehicle, an additional air quality menu appeared, where a driver can monitor the degree of air pollution and turn on its ionization – purification.
6. Genuine Land Rover Dash Cam retrofit
We installed genuine Land Rover Dash Cam retrofit. The Dash Cam records all incidents on the road, harmoniously and neatly fits into the interior of the car. Designed for low power consumption, equipped with two Full HD cameras placed at the front and rear of the vehicle. The Genuine Land Rover Dash Cam includes a 32GB SD card for storing recordings. Recordings can also be accessed and managed using additional apps for Apple or Android smartphones.
Since the client was from another city, the task was to complete all the work as soon as possible. And we coped with this task. All retrofitting work was completed in two days.

Some information about the hidden features activation on this vehicle:
1.Adaptive cruise control Stop & Go activation
Vehicles built on the new EVA 2.0 electronic architecture and the PiVi Pro multimedia system have all adaptive cruise control hardware already pre-installed from the factory and only modifications to the vehicle software are required to activate the adaptive cruise control feature.
When activated, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go automatically maintains the vehicle at a safe distance from the vehicle in front if it slows down or stops while driving on the motorway or in traffic, your vehicle follows it.
The system includes:
– Adaptive cruise control follow mode
– Assistant feature when driving in traffic jams and traffic Stop & Go (Queue Assist)
– Forward alert and emergency braking system at high speeds
After activating the feature, you get additional distance control buttons on the right steering wheel switch and an additional menu on the infotainment system.
2.In addition, the Dynamic mode has been activated with the possibility of its configuration, as well as the Configurable Terrain Response mode
Dynamic mode of the Terrain Response system is used to maximize the vehicle’s capabilities on the road. Faster throttle response, firmer steering at speed, quicker shifting, stiffer suspension (if you have adaptive struts). Dynamic mode promotes more focused and reckless driving. You can turn Terrain Response dynamic mode on or off with an touchscreen button or by simply turning the Terrain Response mode control dial.
Dynamic-I or Configurable dynamic mode allows you to customize the dynamic mode according to your preferences and driving style. You can independently adjust the dynamic or comfort mode for throttle, steering, transmission and suspension. In addition, you will have a lap timer menu, G-force menu, etc.
The configurable Terrain Response off-road system allows the user to create their own profile and customize the vehicle’s off-road settings: differential settings, transmission settings, traction control, steering and suspension stiffness settings.
3.Park assist GEN2 feature activation and WiFi hotspot activation
The new electronics communication architecture also allowed Land Rover to introduce a second generation of automated parking system, thanks to a new control unit, a new 3D surround camera system and 12 parking sensors around the vehicle. From the factory, this function is not offered to DISCOVERY 5 customers even as an option, so we will consider this an exclusive one.
In contrast to the first generation, the Park Assist GEN2 independently controls the pressing of the gas and brake pedals, and also independently selects the necessary gear.
Park Assist GEN2 makes parking easier than ever before by automatically detecting free parking spaces and offering to park instead of you.
Just select a free parking space, press a button on the touchscreen, release the brakes and the steering wheel, and the car will automatically complete a full parking maneuver while you simply lean back and observe your surroundings.
To activate this feature, the vehicle must be equipped with 360 parking systems (12 sensors) and a 3D surround camera system.
Vehicles equipped with the PiVi Pro infotainment system and Telematics control unit have a built-in eSIM internal electronic SIM card, which is used to update some vehicle software over the air. This sim card can also be unlocked to use it as a hotspot and get WiFi in the vehicle. In this case, the system uses an external antenna for the best connection.
Depending on the local market, you will receive 20 GB of data every month for 1-3 years. After using 20 GB of data for a month, the data transfer rate in the vehicle may slow down until the end of the month.
Mobile communications cannot be guaranteed in all locations. All vehicle functions should only be used by drivers when it is safe for them to do so.
Previously, we have already installed genuine soft close doors system on this Discovery 5, but we will talk about this in another article.
There are only a few factory systems left for this vehicle to earn the title of “the highest possible complete set”. All installed features have significantly improved the comfort of the vehicle in everyday use and long trips.
