Jaguar I-PACE Blind Spot Monitoring System and Soft Door Close Retrofit

We’ve had the technologically advanced Jaguar I-PACE come to us for work several times, but often without the useful safety feature from the factory – the Blind Spot Monitoring system. In this article, we’ll briefly discuss the process of retrofitting the Blind Spot Monitoring system on this vehicle and the functionality of the system. We also installed factory soft door close system on this vehicle using genuine JLR parts. It’s worth noting that this option is not available when ordering this vehicle model from the factory.

The vehicle that came to us for retrofitting was a 2019MY Jaguar I-PACE.

The installation process begins with preparing the necessary genuine parts and wiring. In this photo, we see the parts kits needed for the installation of the Blind Spot Monitoring system and soft door close system.

The Blind Spot Monitoring system installation process consists of installing mirror components with blind spot monitoring indicators, connecting the new mirrors to the vehicle’s system. Next, the rear bumper is removed, side blind spot radars are installed, additional wiring is set up, and the radars are connected to the vehicle’s systems.

After that, we perform software work to activate the system and program new modules. Upon the client’s request, it’s possible to install an additional function of the Blind Spot Monitoring system – safe rear passenger exit (Clear Exit). To do this, additional indicators are installed in the rear doors cards, which inform the rear passengers about the danger when opening the rear door.

Modern blind spot monitoring systems on Land Rover/Jaguar vehicles have the following main features:

  • Blind Spot Monitoring system. This function uses radars installed in the rear of the vehicle to detect another vehicle in the blind spot and displays a glowing indicator on the side mirror, warning the driver about maneuvering danger.
  • Indication of a rapidly approaching vehicle (Closing Vehicle Sensing). The blind spot monitoring system detects a vehicle moving in the adjacent lane at a significantly higher speed than yours 70m away. It detects its rapid approach and signals the driver with frequent indicator flashes on the side mirrors.
  • Reverse traffic detection warning (Reverse Traffic Detection). When reversing with limited visibility, the blind spot monitoring system identifies approaching objects and uses an audible signal and visual display on the infotainment system screen to alert the driver of the danger.
  • Safe rear passenger exit system (Clear Exit Detection) – using additional indicators (pictograms) near the door opening handle, the system informs passengers whether there is a danger when opening the door and exiting the vehicle.

Additionally, this vehicle was retrofitted with a factory-unavailable feature – soft door close system. This feature allows the doors to close smoothly and quietly, significantly improving comfort when entering and exiting the vehicle.
